Q2 is a good time to take stock of your UC environment, whether you're running Cisco CUCM, Webex Calling, Microsoft Teams Phone, Zoom Phone, or a mix of all of them.
Configuration drift is quiet until it isn't. A few hours of structured review now can head off missed calls, compliance gaps, and support tickets you don't want to deal with mid-summer.
Here's what to check.
DIDs accumulate fast across any platform, especially after moves, adds, and changes. Scan your DID inventory for numbers that aren't mapped to an active user, line, or trunk. Unmanaged DIDs create billing waste and routing ambiguity that's hard to untangle later.
Whether you're managing hunt pilots in CUCM, call queues in Webex Calling, or auto attendants in Teams Phone, queue agent lists and hunt group members get stale when people leave or change roles. Review each queue and group for users who are no longer active or relevant. Stale lists cause missed calls that look like system failures.
If a phone, softphone, or device profile hasn't seen activity in 60 to 90 days, it's worth reviewing. Orphaned records tie up licenses and clutter your inventory. Pull an inactivity report and flag anything that can't be tied back to a current user or shared space.
Translation patterns, call forwards, auto attendant branches, and time-of-day routing rules tend to outlast the situations they were created for. Review your dial plan and routing configs for rules tied to former employees, closed offices, or one-off campaigns. A setting that made sense two years ago may be creating unexpected behavior today.
E911 is not optional maintenance on any platform. Verify that location data, ELIN groups, and emergency call routing are accurate, especially if your organization has moved phones, added locations, or shifted to hybrid work. A device assigned to the wrong location is a safety and compliance risk you don't want to discover during an actual emergency.
Confirm that your CDR data is being collected, stored, and accessible across every platform you manage. Check for gaps in call records, verify that scheduled reports are running, and make sure the right teams have access to the data they rely on. Gaps in reporting are easy to miss until someone needs the data for an investigation or audit.
Most of these checklist items require pulling data that native UC tools don't surface easily — especially across multiple platforms. Variphy gives you a faster path through the whole thing: DID inventory reporting, device activity reports, and real-time hunt group and queue status dashboards, as-built reporting, and more.
If you're heading into Q2 with a backlog of UC cleanup, request a demo or explore what Variphy does for your platform to see how it fits into your audit workflow.
